Inuit Perinatal Health and Wellness Hub

Inuit women and families from the Kivalliq Region have reported distinct needs and significant stress and fear during the perinatal period. They have requested Inuit-designed, technology-based, and in-person perinatal health resources. As a result, the Inuit Perinatal Health Hub is working with Inuit women to design virtual reality (VR)/immersive technology headsets to support Kivallirmiut women and families during the perinatal period. The Hub is also working with Inuit women to develop an in-person perinatal program to bolster existing services offered at the Winnipeg Boarding Home. Finally, the Inuit Perinatal Health Hub plans to bring Inuit Elders together to share their vision for supporting Inuit children and families.

• Explores Inuit-specific perinatal health and wellness needs not met by available/existing supports and services.
• Engages Elders, youth, community members, service providers, and leaders to inform and design Inuit-specific resources addressing gaps in available/existing supports and services.
• Links Inuit cultural knowledge and ways of knowing and being with health research and practical information.
• Shares learning with individuals, families, communities, and social and health services workers.
